Saint Catherine

wpaa14844e_1b.jpg
The first Christian church in the area of
Keeil Katreeney
was probably founded by missionaries from the Celtic Church of Ireland. Its exact site is not known, but was probably not far from
Chibbyr Catreeney
( St. Catherine’s well )
which is near the shore line below the church
Saint Catherine was a Greek saint martyred on a spiked wheel  in the year 307 AD
Her patronal festival is November 25th.
There are many reference to St Catherine’s in the Manx church times. Click here for the reports in pdf format.
